This tour, as its name suggests, is designed for those who love nature. We visit some of the most beautiful and untouched natural places in Colombia. On this tour you meet nature and recharge your batteries. This tour requires you to be in good physical condition given that several walks at different altitude regions are undertaken. In the Embera language, Egoro means Earth. The Embera are the Amerindian people who live mainly in western Colombia.
Day 1 - Welcome to Colombia
Arrival at El Dorado Airport from where you move to the hotel. After settling at the hotel we go to the hill of Monserrate (via cable car) where you will enjoy a panoramic view of the city at dusk, have a “canelazo”, a typical drink from the region of Boyacá.
Day 2 - The natural face of Bogota
Early in the morning, we will give a short tour in the historical center of Bogota to learn more about the history. After a brief rest, we will leave the city and border it by delighting the eastern hills with spectacular scenery.
Day 3 - Puerto Inírida
We leave the hotel early in the morning to head for Bogota airport to catch our flight to the city of Puerto Inírida, capital of the department of Guainia. Upon arrival, we immediately take a boat to be transported by river to the Indian reservation known as "La Ceiba - Almidon". We will stay in the community until lunchtime. We will have time to meet this community and share their stories and beliefs. We will hike through the orinocense savannas where the native flora of this region - Inírida Teretifolium of Schoenocephalium - can be seen. We will have dinner and stay overnight at the Curripacos maloka.
Day 4 - The Mavicure Hills
We will have breakfast at the community "La Ceiba" and then take a boat to the Mavicure hills. We will do an Eco walk and if we are quiet enough, we may spot some of the wildlife of the region. We will also enjoy the white beaches that are formed at times of drought. We may meet some pink and gray dolphins.
Day 5 - The South Star River
In the afternoon we will travel for about 40 minutes to reach the border with Venezuela and visit the South Star River, known for being the junction of the rivers Guaviare, Orinoco and Atabapo. The union of these three rivers creates a spectacle which looks like a sea next to the sky. This is a place of a wide variety of birds. Later we head back to the hotel where we have dinner.
Day 6 - Villavicencio to Yopal
Our next stop will be the city of Villavicencio, capital of the eastern plains of the Department of Meta. At the airport our car will be waiting for us, ready to begin our next journey through the plains of Colombia. We will travel for about 3 hours to reach the city of Yopal in the department of Casanare. We will arrive at night to our hotel and have a Mamona Llanera - , a typical dinner of the region.
Day 7 - Llanero y natural
On this day we will enjoy doing some activities in the midst of nature in an environment of spectacular beauty where we will have the opportunity of seeing countless species of birds and learn more about life plains.
Day 8 - Llanos to Lago de Tota
After breakfast we continue with our journey heading towards Lake Tota in the department of Boyacá, It is a beautiful lake of 55 square kilometers, with a depth of 60 meters, located at 3.015 meters above sea level. There are abundant rainbow trout in its waters, which can be enjoyed in a modest restaurant at the shore of the lake on a beach of white sand and blue waters.
Day 9 - Lake Tota to Sierra Nevada of Cocuy
On this day we will do a tour of the spectacular highlands of Boyacá. We will experience a great diversity of climatic zones at different temperatures. This journey will present good photo opportunities. After about 6 hours we will reach the town of Guican. We will continue and arrive after a long journey to our cabins in the middle of the mountains in a landscape that will leave you breathless.
Day 10 - Big Lagoon of the Greens
On this beautiful day, we will trek for about 4 hours towards the Big Lagoon of the Greens at 4’300 meters above sea level. This is a walk in which we feel the altitude, but it is precisely for the reason of getting used to this altitude that we are doing this walk. Our goal is to reach the lagoon where we will have a delicious picnic lunch. On our way back we walk for about two and a half hours to return to our cabins to have a delicious hot meal. On this walk we will learn about the Paramo ecosystem.
Day 11 - The Lagoon Area
Early today, we will go to another entrance of the Sierra Nevada of Cocuy. We will do a beautiful trek through hilly terrain with pillows filled with water and frailejones. We will reach the visitors’ center where we will leave our luggage and have lunch. After lunch we will visit the painted lagoon, named for its various colors; the standing lagoon, and the square lagoon, named for its position and shape. We return to the lodge where we will have a nice dinner.
Day 12 - Devils Pulpit and Sugarloaf Summit
We wake up very early and begin our long walk at dawn. We will walk on a sloping ground for about 3 hours to reach the snow. There we find a spectacular large rock called "devil's pulpit, which stands out in this white landscape of ice near the summit of Sugarloaf. For those wishing to get to the summit, a climb to the summit of Sugarloaf, at 5.250 meters above sea level, can be organized. This walk is one of the most beautiful of this park. It must be booked in advance and has duration of 4 more hours.
Day 13 - Guican Hot Springs and Campesino Cheese
The term Campesino is a Spanish word to describe a farm worker or farmer of modest means. Once we have breakfast, we will mount horses and leave the visitor center at 8:00 am and head to the park entrance. Those who prefer to walk can do so without any problem. Our next destination is a rural farm where we learn how to make an artisan cheese. Cheese is one of the most important products produced in the region and very important for its inhabitants. After sharing with local families, we head to the hot spring pools at Guice where we can relax and have a well-deserved break.
Day 14 - Girón
We continue our Egoro journey and leave the beautiful Department of Boyacá to enter the Department of Santander. It will be a long journey by car but we will travel through a beautiful and different landscape from that already seen. We will make several stops at typical Santander towns until we reach the town of Giron. Here we will stay in a beautiful colonial hotel and enjoy the peace that this beautiful colonial town provides.
Day 15 - Cartagena de Indias
Early we continue our journey towards the city of Bucaramanga, where we catch the next flight to Cartagena de Indias in the Department of Bolivar. Upon our arrival our car will transport us to our colonial hotel in the walled city. Today is the day we chose to rest, relax, and enjoy gourmet food and the comfort of civilization. A horse-drawn carriage will collect us for a brief tour of the walled city at night and leave us at the restaurant located in the middle of the colonial city where a delicious dinner is waiting for us.
Day 16 - Playas Guajiras
Today we will take a trip to Cartagena on the Colombian Caribbean coast and head to the beautiful beaches of La Guajira. We will travel for about 5 hours up the coast to appreciate some spectacular views of sea and marsh. This will be a day to rest in the middle of nature, clear the mind and body, and enjoy the sea breeze, sun, and beach. We will then be greeted at an Eco-Hotel of great beauty with a buffet of tropical fruits and juices. At dusk we will receive a visit from community leaders, who will present to us the social project that they have been working on, and which you contributed to with this trip.
Day 17 - P.N.N. Tayrona
We will once again have an active day of trekking. We leave early in the morning and head towards the entrance of the Tayrona National Park. From there we will do a long trek through the tropical forest on undulating ground where we will go through climbs and descents. It is a beautiful walk, full of nature. After about four hours of trekking we will reach Pueblito or Charaima, ancient city of the Kogui tribe. We will descend to the beaches of San Juan, where we will have a break, enjoy the beaches and, later on, have lunch. In the afternoon we will continue our walk along the beach.
Day 18 - Palomino to S.F.F. Los Flamencos
We will continue our journey to the city of Riohacha, stopping at the Flamingo – a sanctuary of fauna and flora. There, we may be able to appreciate the sight of pink flamingos (if they are in the area). We will continue our journey to Riohacha, where we will stay in a comfortable hotel. As this is our last night together in Colombia, we will have a farewell dinner and a party on the beach.
Day 19 - Back Home
Today we have the morning off and we will go to the Riohacha Airport at noon to catch our flight back to Bogota and take our connecting flight back home.
