Colombia 2021: Coffee, Culture and Paradise Beaches

Bogota- Zipaquirá Guatavita - Pereira (coffee triangle ) – Cartagena

Soaring Andean summits, unspoiled Caribbean coast, enigmatic Amazon jungle, cryptic archaeological ruins and cobbled colonial communities. Colombia boasts all of South America's allure, and more.

Bogotá is Colombia's beating heart, an engaging and vibrant capital cradled by chilly Andean peaks and steeped in sophisticated urban cool. The city's cultural epicenter is La Candelaria, the cobbled historic downtown to which most travelers gravitate.

Cartagena de Indias is the undisputed queen of the Caribbean coast, a historic city of superbly preserved beauty lying within an impressive 13km of centuries-old colonial stone walls. Cartagena's Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site – a maze of cobbled alleys, balconies covered in bougainvillea, and massive churches that cast their shadows across leafy plazas.

This mineral, the essence of the town (founded on July 18, 1600), is abundant in the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá, a religious sanctuary built in an underground salt mine. It is one of the remarkable tourist sites in Colombia, the majestic Salt Cathedral built 180 meters deep in a salt mine. Later we will visit to the center of the town of Guatavita. The tour of the town will be short, as the town is small (it lasts 15 minutes). The lake of the same name is located 10 minutes from the village. Guatavita, the sacred lake, used to be the ceremonial site where the Indians worshipped Chie, the goddess of water, during lavish ceremonies that gave rise to the legend of El Dorado. According to the legend, the Muisca Indian chief would arrive, covered with dust, on a wooden raft, with four of his priests and the treasures collected in his community. After throwing the treasures into the lake as a symbol of adoration, he would immerse himself in the water. The famous Colombian rock " Piedra de Penol or El Peñon de Guatape" is rising over 650 feet out of the flat ground of Guatape, located between the towns of El Peñol and Guatape, and each town considers the rock its own attraction. Therefore, the rock was named by combining the names of the cities. It is believed that its age is more than 70 million years. The Piedra de Penol or El Peñon de Guatape, was once worshiped by the Tahamies Indians. They considered the rock sacred and called it "Muharra", that means "stone". The Tahamis worshipped the Batolito fish, which, according to legend, jumped out of the sea to protect them from the wrath of the heavenly gods. In the battle, it was petrified and turned into El Peñon de Guatape. The rock stands alone among the low hills, so it looks especially impressive.
